| If a gas/oil facility uses a nitrogen purge gas for commissioning new lines and equipment is this type of gas detectable with the GasFindIR camera to find leaks? |

The reason we can see the hydro carbons is the resonance of the C-H bond. Think of a couple weights on the end of a spring. The oscillations of a spring would have a specific frequency based on the mass of the weights (elements) and the strength of the spring (binding energy). This results in a resonance near 3.3 micrometers which is where we filter the IR camera. There are no bonds with single atoms of just H, O, N, etc. We sure wish there was a way to detect these but there isn't via optical gas imaging! |
